Students and Stress SVC September 2016.pdf

On Sept 20, myself and three students attended the Student Voice Conference at St. Francis Xavier Parish. The panel of 30+ students included high-achieving, honour-roll, post-secondary bound students, as well as students in alternate programing such as Credit Recovery and Alt-Ed.

The students were asked what was making them "so stressed-out", a sentiment being heard across secondary classrooms in Dufferin-Peel, and a very real concern at the board level.  I was not involved in the discussion, but was able to observe, listen and record their frustrations and concerns.

The presentation I put together is a consolidation of, and organized around, those concerns which are causing them so much anxiety and stress. The secondary sources included are testaments to the very real worries facing our students, the insights they have about themselves as learners, and what they know they need to be successful in high school, and beyond.        ~ Sandra Macaro-Turco (SST)
